Movie :Marujanma [2008]
This film by veteran director AR. Babu is based on his own experience and reincarnation. A sensitive subject like this needs deft handling and the narration has to maintain an element of novelty. Instead, babu opts for the tried and tested routine. As a result the film moves at a slow pace and fails to pick up tempo even when several twists in the story come about. And less said about the film's music, the better. If you list some of the most successful films made on the same subject, you'll find that their soundtrack most often had a haunting quality to them and formed a major part of the film's attraction. Here, the much-hyped song featuring Prem is at best an average presentation and there's nothing better to be said of the other songs in the film. The story is about two lovers who died, rather tragically four hundred years ago and are now born again. Of Varun and Devaki, only Varun realizes this fact. Finally, the two are united at the same spot where they were killed. Newcomers Nag Kiran and Priyanka look tired from the first sequence itself and Dimple despite a small role comes across as a relief. Ashok Kheny who made more news for his legal tangles with the Karnataka government and his tiff with politician Deve gowda, plays the role of the king in the film. His costumes suit him but his body language falters. The only appreciably element in the film is its cinematography.
